skeletin replied to your post: some clumsy thoughts on the joseph gor…

tbh i reblogged it because i like jgl but honestly he derails the argument from being woman centric and instead takes it from the women and focuses it (however unintentionally) on himself. i do acknowledge the need for a multiplicity of perspectives

yes yes exactly I totally agree

some clumsy thoughts on the joseph gordon levitt feminism video and quote, emma watson’s un speech and other viral internet feminism things:

  • I don’t want to reblog this shit. everything these people say is incredibly simplistic and ~intro to feminism~ type stuff. it’s always like feminism 101: basic human decency shit.
  • I don’t want to imply that what these people are saying is revolutionary, because it’s not. I don’t think they’re doing amazing work. it comes across as the bare minimum to me.
  • however, I feel the need to acknowledge it, because although my personal understanding of feminism is complex and ever-deepening, many others need to hear the basic stuff. hearing dumbed down feminism is still important, I guess, because people are ignorant and uninformed
  • so when I reblog this stuff it’s not because I want to show y’all the ‘revolutionary shit’ going on online, but because I am picking up on instances where the wider public acknowledges feminism, which is important, even though it’s pretty basic
  • ya feel?
